I am an award-winning photographer and an artist. I haven't won any awards for my art. Yet. ;-) But I have sold it internationally I'm based in the North East of England where I have my studio. I am passionate about how being creative can help our mental health. Even more so when you combine creating with nature. Whether that is being in nature or using gifts from nature to create art.
The act of being creative has long been recognised as a powerful form of therapy. Whatever form it takes, creative expression can offer us a space just to 'be'. When we immerse ourselves in a creative task, we enter a state of heightened focus and concentration known as flow. In this state, our sense of time diminishes, and we become fully absorbed in the task at hand, experiencing a sense of peace and fulfilment.
Nature has a profound impact on our mental health. Simply being in nature can evoke feelings of tranquillity, providing a welcome respite from the stresses of daily life. Whether it's a stroll through the woods, a hike in the mountains, or a day spent by the sea, immersing ourselves in natural environments has been shown to reduce anxiety, alleviate depression, and improve overall well-being. The sights, sounds, and sensations of nature awaken our senses and reconnect us with the rhythm of the natural world, grounding us in the present moment.
I create beautiful artworks using real botanicals which have either been gathered from my garden or ethically foraged. I use the botanical material to cast decorative 'tiles' in a variety of materials. This is usually plaster but I also work with concrete, cement, terracotta, and occasionally resin.
Each tile is unique and you can commission me to create something bespoke for you bringing the joy and wonder of the natural world into your home. I offer wedding flower tiles and memorial tiles, (for people and pets) or you can book me to create a special tile for yourself or as a gift for someone else.
I sometimes sell ready-to-ship tiles on Etsy and run occasional workshops where you can learn how to make the tiles yourself.
